How clean should I do for the drivetrain before lubing?

In absolute shambles now, I'm cleaning my bike's drivetrain with special bike brushes and WD-40 degreaser, it's my fifth round of degreasing and the chain is always black when I wipe it dry

Is this normal? Do I need to continue the degreasing cycle 😭 also I'm pretty sure the bike came with wet lube from the factory, does it make cleaning longer?
