To anyone who was diagnosed as a little kid, what’s the reason why your parent or guardian never told you that you were autistic later on in life? Why did they keep it “hidden”?

I remember when I was 15, I asked my mom about me being autistic. I guess I asked her why I never known about it, or just questioning about it. I remember her telling me that she wanted me to get along with the other kids, and not be treated differently.
