Crosstrek totaled - do I downsize?

My 2021 Crosstrek was totaled this week. Base model with about 22,000 miles on it. I had planned to have it as my car forever. 😭

I live in a densely packed city - parking is a challenge. I usually only drive once or twice a week for shopping and social events. Less in the winter when I work more (from home) and more in the summer for local day trips. I am out of the country for 2-4 months each year and my car just sits there while I am gone. Last year I put under 3,000 miles on it.

I’m torn between getting a cheaper and smaller car vs sticking with something I know and like (but don’t love). Anything slightly smaller and cheaper than the Crosstrek (like a Kona) doesn’t seem to be worth it - so I’ve been considering something more along the lines of a Venue.

Price is, of course, a factor - but I have some money so I’m really thinking about what’s the best value for my money, given how little I drive and how I would keep the car for a long time.
