Vto interest and lack of work dilemma

So my building is a sort center. I work 1900-2300. They can either flex up to an hour or release us when we are done and we'll get paid for the rest of the shift cause per ct law they cannot ask us to leave work and not pay us for the full 4 hours. Today I put my name on the interest list for vto. I scanned my badge for interest, they sent me a message on my scanner asking me to leave at 10pm. Okay cool. All work was done at 10pm and everyone was sent home. But on my schedule its showing im coded for vto. Should I talk to hr? How can I argue this?
