Best DEX for USDC/USDT

Tried to swap $10k of USDC to USDT last week thinking it would basically cost nothing since they are both pegged to the same value. Got $9,780 out and still have no idea how that's possible. Asked support and they mentioned spread and pool fees but couldn't give me a straight answer on why it was that much.

Is there something people use for stablecoin swaps that doesn't quietly take 2% or is this just how it works everywhere?
