SPOILERS Possibly unpopular opinion about the movie OBSESSION

Something that disturbed me was how unhappy not just real Nikki was, but Willow Nikki too.

He gets mad at it for "acting crazy" (Real Nikki trying to end her literal life to escape) at the party. He says "I just want you to be Nikki." Or something along those lines and it says "I can't" and starts sobbing.

And really, it can't be. Real Nikki wouldn't love him. Those two ideas can't coexist. So this thing he's created is struggling to figure out how to be what he wants the whole movie. As others have pointed out, I believe that Willow Nikki isn't a demon but some kind of distorted reflection of Bears own desires. But the thing he wants is fundamentally impossible and so Willow Nikki lives a tortured existence too.

When it was crying in the corner of the room saying she feels like it's not mutual I got chills because that thing was created for the sole purpose of loving him. This is made super clear to me later by her monologue about how she becomes nothing while he's away. So of course the thing would freak the fuck out about not being loved by him. It needs him to even exist.

It's not a real person, maybe not even entirely sentient. It just repeats what it thinks he likes - outfits, words, actions. I believe the only thing it knows is it has to love Bear, and be loved in return.

I don't know if I can fault even Willow Nikki for anything for these reasons. Which might get some hate lol. But I think Bear created a living paradox and then shoved it into Nikki's body, neither of which had any choice in the matter.

I also wonder if Nikki was completely in the back seat - watching what was going on or disappearing while Willow Nikki was in control. Or was it even worse? Did she feel everything Willow Nikki felt, and make the choices Willow Nikki made, because she was a part of her? Only to occasionally have clarity and agency again and try desperately to escape before she sinks back under the influence of the wish?

It's a super good movie. I left feeling physically ill and want to see it again lmao
