Why is Oda Nobunaga the most famous character to come out to the Sengoku Jidai period?

Considering that he didn't come out victorious, and that it was Tokugawa Ieyasu who won in the end, I don't get why he's the most prominent person of that period of Japanese history.

I get that he brought guns to Japanese warfare and manipulated the leadership of the previous shogunate, but that seems like far less of an accomplishment than creating a whole new Shogunate.

Could somebody please explain why it's him that gets all of the attention in that era?
