“Add or subtract a zero” hack for protein
Tracking macros and calories has been what moved the needle for me since starting tirz.
Recently learned about this fun little hack to quickly determine if your food is protein rich! (and worth your calories).
Add a zero
Take the grams of protein per serving and add a zero to it. If that number is greater than or equal to the total calories per serving, it’s supposedly a high-protein food.
For example:
Tuna – 16g of protein, 110 calories. Add a zero → 160. Since 160 is greater than 110, it qualifies as high protein.
Kodiak Pancake Mix – 15g of protein, 220 calories. Add a zero → 150. Since 150 is less than 220, it’s not as protein-dense as it might seem.
Subtract a zero
Drop the 0 off the total calories and protein should be more than that
For example:
Tuna - 16g of protein, 110 calories … drop the 0 so it should have at least 11 grams of protein (which it does)
