Is it ok to date/get into a new relationship even though you’re still hurting from your past relationship?
I’m not talking about still being in love with an ex and trying to get over them. I’m over my ex romantically for quite a long time now but I’m not over what he did to me. The relationship ended 2 years ago and although 2 years is a long time , I was emotionally abused by him which is very difficult to forget, I think part of me will always be hurt. When I finally found the strength to leave the relationship he got so angry at me and started spreading lies about me. When I tried to heal he would find ways to contact me and provoke me. This went on for just under a year until he finally stopped but it meant that I didn’t get to properly start healing until a year after the relationship ended! I’m still hurt, I still have days I replay all the hurtful things he said to and about me. The thing is for the past 4 months I’ve got to know this guy on a deeper level , he’s so kind and I’m not saying I’m in love with him (yet) but there definitely is something there and I get excited to talk to him , I like spending time with him and I’ve been open with him about my past and he’s very understanding. Me and him have been friends for a few years, not best friends but we were in the same friend group at uni so we already knew each other which is nice but now we’ve got to know each other a lot better and have spent time together just the two of us and not in the friendship group. I feel like I am ready to date/be in a relationship but would it be wrong to pursue something if I’m still hurting from my past?
