Pixel Fold to Razr Fold
Hi all,
I wanted to throw my two cents for anyone who might be interested in switching to the razor fold.
Camera: I haven't been able to get too many photos through all the use cases but I think the pixel fold is a better point and shoot, however I think if you're more diligent with how you take photos then the Motorola will be better. Today at the aquarium I got more blurry shots that I'm used to, but the ones that didn't come out blurry definitely look amazing. I have to try the action shot next time I go out and about. The camera experience though is great, photos are lightning fast to take, and changing zoom was quick. I feel like Samsung and pixels tend to have a very slight lag when taking more than one photo, happy to see this one doesn't. Video is great though, will need to test more.
Performance: Night and day difference. I don't want to catch too much flack but man, this phone is lightning fast. It handles switching between audiobooks, youtube, Google maps, camera all just so quick. I think this was the biggest problem I had with tensor, the chip was fine for light use, but it was like putting a 4 cylinder engine in a semi truck. It just struggles doing more than the basics as it relates to battery life at least.
Battery: my pixel fold never had good battery, I was charging it twice a day with my use case. As I'm typing this right now the phone is at 47%, and that's with 14 hours give or take of what I would consider heavy use. I took my toddler to the aquarium this morning took lots of photos, call people, did lots of messaging, wireless Android auto as I was driving so lots of music. What's nice is the 80 watt charge as well. I really do miss not having battery anxiety.
OS: I think for now the pixel has a slightly better overall aesthetic, so I actually typed all this out but accidentally invoked Google which killed the app and I had to retype all of this LOL. Weird things like when you unfold the phone the Google search doesn't let you resize it so it's the full unfolded length. I haven't figured out how to put more than five icons on the bottom bar when unfolded, apart from the recommended ones. I think it's incredibly silly to have a dedicated button for the Motorola AI. I was never a fan of the way multitasking worked on the pixel phones, this one seems better but I still think Galaxy fold has the best organic way of putting two apps side by side. I had to reinstall Facebook a few times because it kept freaking out wanting a pass key and then getting into a login loop, Reddit randomly takes like 30 seconds to load. But apart from that I do like the operating system, I just think the pixel might be a little more refined at the end of the day though and full transparency this might just be on me being dumb dumb. I do love the haptics, top tier. I miss call screening!
Hardware: I didn't realize the front screen was more narrow than the pixel, at least it feels slightly more narrow. It's not a big deal but I don't think I could handle anything more narrow. Accessory support sucks, I can't get a screen protector yet, the ones on Amazon are still a few weeks from being even shipped. The build quality seems fine now, it's definitely lighter and closer to the zfold. I know the front screen is higher quality on specs but I don't notice anything apart from the screens definitely brighter. Time will tell if the phone holds up well. Speakers are fantastic, I think it sounds better than the pixel but honestly both phones have great speakers.
Closing: my biggest drive was having a better performance to battery ratio, I don't know about you all but I feel like pixels don't seem to age well, that is to say the performance the battery doesn't generally improve. People say Motorola is behind on updates but honestly, I know I'll catch hate, but it's not like Google really does a good job of making the phones better anymore anyway. I'm super happy with a phone that I know I can take lots of pictures of my toddler, listen to my audiobooks, and not be stressed out that my phone needs to be charged multiple times especially when I go to the airport. I hope this doesn't come across has me crapping on the pixel, but I just wanted to put out my thoughts in case anyone was curious.
Thanks!
