I know many people are skeptical about it. To be honest, I also don’t think the probability of success is very high.

But I still think this may be one of AppLovin’s smartest bets.

Building a social platform itself is not the hardest part.

Distribution is the hardest part.

And for a company with one of the strongest AI advertising and recommendation engines in the world, AppLovin is not starting from zero.

It is standing on the shoulders of its own ad-tech machine.

Even if Gist fails, the downside seems limited.

But if it works, the upside could be huge.

Right now, Gist feels heavily inspired by Xiaohongshu / RedNote in China. I actually think this is a very smart decision.

If Gist succeeds, AppLovin may no longer be just an ad-tech company.

It could become a hybrid of Meta, AppLovin, and Reddit:

social content,
AI distribution,
community discussion,
and advertising monetization.

That is why I think Gist is worth paying attention to.

Gist may fail.

But if it works, AppLovin’s ceiling could be much higher than the market thinks.
