Chika San Antonio terrible
I went to Chika tonight with my husband and never in my life have I ever been told by a restaurant owner or manager “Don’t come back then”!!
We have been to Chika two other times. We enjoyed ourselves, it was a rather expensive Omakase, but San Antonio doesn’t have very many options. This last experience, May 22, 2026 was shockingly terrible.
The first seven courses had possibly 1 ounce of fish total. A cucumber salad, a salad, a seaweed salad with a little bit of crab sprinkled, a terrible, awful daikon radish something that I couldn’t eat. Some kind of chips with tiny crumbles of fish, maybe half an ounce, called Chilaquiles and was compared to a ceviche with chips that should be broken up, not eaten like nachos. A soup with pasta shells. Does it sound like sushi? At almost $400 for two people the last seven courses of Nigiri had rice that was extremely vinegar flavored it was barely edible. The fish was underseasoned with no salt or flavor and was disappointing. To top this off, there was no dessert. So 14 dishes of maybe 6 ounces of protein, finished with no dessert and the chef not receiving our feedback. We were told to “then don’t come back”. We were told “then go to Uchi” when we said we enjoy Uchi in Austin. My husband remarked to the chef that it was obvious the chef was not in the service industry. I have worked in the service industry, waiting tables working for many different restaurant chains and after any bad experience I have ever had, or seen, the manager has offered sincere apologies and asked for a second chance either by comping the dinner or giving credit for the next visit. This was defensiveness and a ridiculous ego of Jonathan Reyes that my husband and I were dealing with at this establishment. And indeed we will never go back.
