Working on Advance Wars: Dual Strike... 16 Masteries in, this may be more of a slog than all of the previous ones combined.
As a disclaimer, I LOVE the game itself, and the series. AW2: Black Hole Rising was my second mastery, but the sheer amount of gameplay you need to do in Dual Strike by contrast is insane. I think by the end I'm going to legitimately resent that there's an achievement tied to getting 300/300 medals, because those are tied to, well, every metric you can possibly do in the game. # of units built/destroyed, games played, ranks obtained etc, and you have to get each of these in the order of HUNDREDS.
There's always going to be a big question of what should "count" as an achievement, and if it's ever justified to disqualify the game's own "100%" metric for an achievement, but man I just don't believe that anything that's hard-locked behind hours of monotonous grinding represents any sort of "challenge". You can do literally everything else in the game and be like, 20% of the way to full medal collection.
Loving the actual playing-the-game part, but once I reach the finished-playing-the-actual-game part, I think I'm gonna have to put this one on the backburner and just make gradual process at chipping away at it in downtime whilst working on other games... What are your experiences of game masteries that were a sheer slog to get through?
