Who/what is Batman's "bane"

Bane is often described as something or someone that causes constant annoyance, misery, or ruin. And we've seen it explored in all sorts of media. In literature and especially comics we see the concept of a "bane" that fights back against the superhero. The bad to the good you could say. Spidermans "bane" is Green Goblin of course.

My question is, who or what in Batman's roster could be described as Batman's "bane"? Maybe Joker? I really think they could explore this narrative device. They could even design a character for it.

What do you all think? I'm not the biggest DC head so anyone with more knowledge than me that can opine on this would be greatly appreciated!
