SimpleUI - koreader won’t open after adding new font?

For reference I have a pocketbook era color.  I recently added the bellota font from here: github When I select the font while in simpleui it causes koreader to quit and to never open.

To take you step by step - I placed the bellota font in my system’s font folder.  I open the koreader app. I then go to SimpleUI’s settings, Style -> UI Font -> bellota font.  Once I select bellota font, koreader freezes. I am unable to select anything else, then it exits out of koreader on its own.  When I try to open koreader it will not open.  

I then turn my pocketbook off then on.  I still cannot open the koreader app when selected. I connect my pocketbook to my computer and remove the bellota font from they system -> fonts folder.  I disconnect pocketbook from my computer.  Immediately my koreader app works without me having to restart my pocketbook.

I try a second time and add the bellota font back to my fonts folder to try it all again.  Rinse and repeat everything I mention above.

Is this some sort of bug that needs to be worked out? Is there anyway I can try the bellota font? I saw it on here, and wanted to give it a try. Yes, custom font is enabled within my SimpleUI settings.
