I (16m) want cut my hair in the style of a mohawk but my gf(16f) gets really upset about it

It's a really stupid one, I know but I need help

It's almost summer and since schools are over I want to get a mohawk. I've wanted for a long time to do this but I wasn't really sure. I told my gf and she was almost crying about it. I tried to explain to her that it's just hair and it will grow back etc. I called her today and told her and from my understanding (though I could have misinterpreted her) she will view me differently from how she sees me now. How do I proceed? Do I cut my hair and see how it will unfold? Do I get anything else so she can stop acting like that? Am I doing something wrong?
