Post S4 Ep5 Theory

SpoilerTheory

Okay, I need to talk about Julie specifically because I think she might secretly be one of the most important characters in the entire show.

At first, her story just seemed like trauma and emotional instability, like she was reacting to the town the same way everyone else does. But now I’m starting to think Julie is functioning as a literal disturbance in the structure of Fromville itself.

I don’t think her time travel/visions/whatever this ability actually is are meant to “save” people. I think the town is using her. Or maybe the entity behind the town is. Every time Julie tries to intervene, the outcome somehow reinforces the cycle instead of breaking it.

That’s what makes her terrifying to me. She believes she’s gaining agency, but she may actually be the mechanism that keeps the loop stable.

Think about it, every major revelation in this show comes with consequences. Knowledge is never freeing in From, it’s corrosive. Characters who get too close to understanding things either die, lose themselves psychologically, or become isolated from everyone else. Julie is following that exact pattern. The more she “sees,” the more detached she becomes from normal reality, however fucked up it is.

And what if that’s intentional?

What if the town doesn’t stop people from discovering the truth because it’s hiding something? What if it allows just enough truth to manipulate certain people into preserving the system?

Julie might be the perfect candidate for that because she’s emotionally driven. She acts out of love, guilt, fear, and desperation. If she thinks she can go back and prevent suffering, of course she’ll try. But every attempt to alter events may actually create the conditions necessary for the cycle to continue.

So instead of “time travel” being a tool of liberation, it becomes the narrative containment. The loop survives because Julie keeps trying to fix it in every single life she comes back to town.

I also think this connects to the show’s obsession with memory and identity. A lot of people in Fromville slowly lose themselves. They adapt to the nightmare, accept irrational rules, stop questioning things, and eventually become psychologically absorbed by the town. But characters who preserve memory, people like Victor especially, seem dangerous to the system.

That’s why Victor matters so much. He remembers thru pictures. His memories survive when everything else resets emotionally or symbolically.

Julie feels like the opposite side of that coin. Victor preserves the past; Julie interferes with it. Victor archives reality, Julie messes with it.

I'm starting to wonder if the town is afraid of both of them for different reasons.

Victor threatens the system because he remembers too much. Julie threatens it because she can move through parts of the system she shouldn’t be able to access. But unlike Victor, Julie may not realize she’s still operating inside the rules the town created for her.

Which leads to the creepiest possibility of every loop having its own Julie.

What if Julie is the person chosen to believe they can change fate, only to unknowingly guarantee it happens exactly the way it always was supposed to.

That would explain why the town feels simultaneously random and scripted. Why people keep inheriting roles (Tabby and Jade for example). Why certain symbols and events repeat. Why knowledge always comes with punishment (Jim).

The worst part of Fromville might not be that nobody can escape. It might be that the town turns people’s hope into the very thing that traps them there forever, instead of taking them home like the villagers believe.

TL;DR: I think Julie’s “time travel” isn’t breaking the loop but it’s maintaining it. Every time she tries to change the past, she accidentally reinforces the town’s cycle and helps events happen the way they were always meant to.

Meanwhile, Victor threatens the town and the Creator because he preserves memories through his drawings instead of letting reality get rewritten. Julie and Victor are basically opposites: she interferes with time, he preserves it.

The scariest possibility is that every loop has always had a “Julie," someone manipulated into thinking they can save everyone, when they’re actually the reason the cycle keeps repeating.
