POD vs small batch under 100 copies when does it actually make sense?

I have a couple local events coming up and want physical copies to sell there plus some direct sales on the side. I'm looking at maybe 50-75 copies total. Problem is I genuinely can't tell if ordering a batch upfront is cheaper once you factor in storage and shipping vs just using KDP or IngramSpark and eating the higher per-copy cost. Has anyone actually run the numbers on this? Did a small batch ever make sense for you or did you just stick with POD and call it a day?
