Is anyone in the process of completing or have already completed this program? I’m going to be applying as soon as my withdrawal from my previous program is finalized and I’m kinda anxious but also excited. Long story short, I’m realizing that my backup career plan is not really where I want to be and I want to give myself another shot at the field that I’m really passionate about. Any insight on the application process and classes/clinical experiences would be greatly appreciated!
I was looking under the WGU nursing subreddit but it looks like nobody ever really posts there.🥲
UPDATE: Since first posting this, I’ve had a call with a readmissions counselor and have been assigned my new enrollment counselor! The only thing left for me to do on my checklist is pay for the background check and give them time to review my admissions essay and HESI transcript! Fingers crossed and I’ll be starting by May 1st!!😊
UPDATE #2: I have officially been cleared to start my new program!! My start date is May 1st and I am so excited!
UPDATE #3: It’s December, I’m 7 months deep and I have to admit, chemistry was one of my biggest challenges out of all the courses so far (I say so far because I still need to tackle Patho and Pharmacology) 😅 but I’ve had incredible support from my course instructors and program mentor, as well as the academic coaching staff. I’m in my last term before I start skills labs and clinicals so the nerves are reallyyyyy kicking in but I’m so excited!
Side note: If anyone is starting their program or in the middle of theirs and find yourselves struggling with anything, do not hesitate to use all of your resources and ask for help. Set up regular meetings with your instructors/mentor, use any content available to you in the course tips, join the live cohort sessions, even schedule 1:1 sessions if you need to. All of the staff I’ve been in touch with have been so kind and supportive and they want to help you succeed.
UPDATE #4: It’s February and I’m not gonna lie to y’all..Patho was a lot more of a struggle than I expected it to be and I extended my course end date by at least 3 additional weeks but I finally passed!! If I give any advice to anyone it’s USE YOUR RESOURCES. Utilize the book with the note taking guide and take your notes in ways that will help you understand the why and how for everything; don’t try to just memorize what things are. Attend the cohorts, use recorded lessons, and have 1:1 sessions if you need to! The instructors in the course group have all been so helpful during my time working in this. Onward to tackling Health & Wellness and Med Dosage!!
UPDATE #5: It’s the last week of April, term ending is upon us, and I’ve hit what feels like my first real setback. Personal issues and the couple of courses that took me extra time to complete have led me to decide on delaying my original plan of starting clinical term next month. I will instead be carrying over the Med Dosage and Foundations courses into the next term and starting clinical by November. I can’t say I’ve been the easiest on myself about it but after my talk with my mentor, I feel more comfortable with my decision. So yeah, idk! I’ll give another update as I finish my last 2 courses and leave any tips that helped me through the courses if anyone wants! And thanks to whoever is still looking at my updates.🥴
