Liquorland Manager Not Allowing Breaks When Working Alone

Team Member Post

My manager has just started dictating that we cannot close the store to take our 15 minute rest breaks unless there is another team member working.

I've only started working at Liquorland at the start of the year so I'm not quite sure how this compares to other stores' norms as well. But I'm pretty sure my manager has recently started enforcing this from Tell Liquor feedback.

Firstly, I'm pretty sure you can't take a break within the first and last hour of your shift so there's obviously a non-compliance issue there... I think it's ridiculous that we sometimes have to take our breaks in the first 30 minutes of our shift just to avoid having to close the store later on when there's only one team member working.

The only time we're allowed to close the store to take breaks is on Sundays when there is no overlap, but even then my manager acts like we're losing so many sales.

Obviously when there's a reasonable overlap between shifts I'm happy to take it during then, but some in some shifts it's ridiculous that I have to take my 15 minute break within 30 minutes of my shift ending.

Another instance is when my manager asked if I could take my break during another shift instead because another team member was not able to cover my 15 minute break... (At least I still got the break at some point lol). But the point is that I should be getting my breaks when I work.

I'm considering joining a union like RAFFWU as well if anyone recommends that option.

This situation is also partially my fault because I did not set the boundary originally but I just wanted to remain complacent with my manager.
