PhD Starting In October

Hello all- I've recently been made an offer to study at the University of Strathclyde. I have a couple of questions so if anyone could offer me any insight I'd be forever grateful! Firstly, accommodation- I've had a brief look and there is so much variety, does anyone have any good recommendations on where to live/where to avoid, I'd like to spend between 800-900 including bills etc... Secondly, I've moving from the west midlands so I know literally no-one, ideally I'd like to meet / get in touch with some people before moving, unsure where to start with this though. How did you meet people / for someone in my circumstance how would you recommend I get in touch with like-minded people or other PhD students.
