It's okay for cyclists and pedestrians to cross on a red light

Of course there is some nuance to this:

The cyclist should be an adult who, just like people with drivers' licences, can judge whether a traffic situation is safe or not.

When I say cross on a red, I mean only when there are no cars. I would not support them crossing and cars having to brake because of it.

But if the light is red and a cyclist has good vision and is sure there is absolutely no one, why not go?

Waiting for a red light when there's no one is a waste of time. People should have the ability to think for themselves: is it safe for me to go or not? Traffic lights exist for a reason and they can be very useful but that shouldn't mean you have to listen to them in every single context. For example, in some German towns they just turn the traffic lights off at night since they become unnecessary when there isn't a lot of traffic.

I believe it's better to make people use their brains and judge a traffic situation than make them wait for a red when there's no one there, since the latter just doesn't make sense.
