Detoxing husband
Hi everyone, I’m gonna try to be brief because I’m on the verge of a meltdown and I really need to read different POV from my situation to cool off.
My husband is 39 and I’m 37, we’ve been married for 5 years now and when we met we both smoked but by the second year of marriage I decided to quit and was able to do it quickly without a problem, he said he would follow up on the detox and I said it was ok if he still wanted to do it casually or around friends and so he did but then he went back into his old habits and started to do it again everyday, I let it slide that one time but tbh this year I’ve been having a very hard time being okay with his consumption since he does it everyday constantly, I know he comes home tired from work but he just sits on his couch and puts tv doesn’t even see tv just browsing on his phone.
I try to stay off his back and be responsible for the situation at home since I’m currently not working but at the same time I feel uneasy about him just being “unplugged” of reality, it’s like he’s in outer space and I’m over here trying to reach for him and I’m always failing.
We had a conversation two years ago about it when i told him he could still do it casually and/or around friends, so we had the same talk again last week and he said he would quit totally because he has no self control, so with the detox came the mood swings, he’s angry at work saying he’s making nasty comments just because he’s moody and fears it will get him in trouble… so today we talked sincerely and I said we should go to therapy to try figure out what can we do to help the situation but then he dropped a bomb on me saying that he fears that the weed made him feel more relaxed about everything and just pass by whatever he had to, even me, he basically said that he fears after cleaning his system he might not be able to stay with me, he’s not a bad husband, he’s great and we always have a good time but I’m more of a confrontational type of person and he’s an avoider type so i always wanna clear things up and be honest and he sees it as being “negative” because sometimes I have opinions that are “too much”and since I have been trying to avoid conflict with his family because i don’t click very well with their opinions i just try to keep my comments to myself and became a very reserved person around them to stay at peace but when we get home i vent out to him and thats why he says I’m always seeing the bad side of every situation… but i just wanna talk to somebody about what i think and since i don’t want problems with his family i always feel safe talking just to him, (am i wrong?) whenever he has an opinion regarding someone from my family i always listen and don’t make a big fuss about it sometimes i even agree with his opinion, but he thinks that whenever i make my opinion it’s because I’m trying to bash certain member of his family when in reality I’m jus trying to vent out my point of view regarding the subject/idea that was being discussed at the moment… anyway that realization honestly crushed me in so many ways I can’t even express how much it hurts, I’ve been crying nonstop all day and can’t get any sleep right now
I would really appreciate any advice on this matter.
I’m not sure how the tl;dr works so I hope I do it correctly.
TL;DR : husband is detoxing from weed, has constant mood swings and thinks he won’t be able to stay with me anymore.
