managed to get accepted without traditional activities
had around 3.6 gpa but took hardest classes available
scored 1540 in sat
only recognition was national merit semifinalist status
absolutely no extracurriculars through school or any official groups, just stuff i pursued by myself
got accepted to university of illinois for computer science program yesterday! their cs department ranks top 6 nationally and actually beats some ivies that turned me down early decision. was really doubting myself when seeing other applicants with robotics teams, competition wins, founded organizations, etc. but tried to be genuine in essays and somehow it paid off
not saying being "real" guarantees admission anywhere. probably got fortunate, and even though i lack formal activities, i was lucky to find my main interest in 7th grade and spent thousands of hours on it since then. built my whole application around this one thing. would choose this activity over college if forced to pick, that's how much i care about it
hopefully this shows that demonstrating genuine passion for something, when presented well, can be sufficient for competitive programs
