Flooring installers — what do you think about infrared underfloor heating film?
I’m interested in opinions from flooring installers, builders and anyone who works with laminate, engineered wood, vinyl, tiles or floating floors.
Has anyone here fitted or worked with infrared underfloor heating film?
I’m looking at this type of system because it sits under the floor finish and can provide radiant heat without radiators or wet pipework. It seems useful for modern homes, extensions, garden rooms, apartments and retrofit projects where floor build-up and wall space matter.
A few things I’d be interested to hear from flooring professionals:
- Which floor finishes work best with electric infrared heating film?
- Any issues with laminate, LVT, engineered wood or tiles?
- What underlay or insulation layer would you recommend?
- Is it easy to install compared with traditional electric underfloor heating mats?
- Any concerns with floor temperature, expansion or manufacturer warranties?
- Would you recommend it for garden rooms or full-house heating?
- What should homeowners check before choosing this type of system?
I’m not looking for a hard sell — more interested in practical feedback from people who actually fit floors and see what works long term.
Would you use infrared underfloor heating film under a flooring project, or would you avoid it?
