How can I talk to my pcp about ADHD?
I'm at the end of my rope with this. But how can I as an adult ask my doctor about adhd with out feeling judged? I already feel like the doctor is going to think I'm just trying to score Adderall.
But about a week ago I was sitting in my bedroom feeling frustrated, once again being mega avoident to packing up my apartment to move. I've never looked into adhd but then it got me thinking of my childhood and how I basically never did anything in school and was unorganized and barely passed high school but then in college I had As and Bs before I started to withdraw from classes because I couldn't "force myself to study" but I could just read Wikipedia and doom scroll or watch documentaries instead unrelated to class. Or how I'd start hobbys and end them quickly putting them " on the back burner" after a taste of success with it. Later that week I was in a lyft and the driver and I were talking tells me he's in school find out he's in school for a similar degree I was. Cool! Then when he describes his childhood it sounded nearly identical to mine. Then told me he got diagnosed as an adult with adhd but did really well in college now despite him almost falling high-school. Says he takes meds now and it really helped him. Google adhd as I always assumed it was just "child bounces off walls" read the symptoms and see it's literally describing my full childhood.
But I know from experience treatment is basically meth?
I really want to trial something because I know based on what I read it was describing me to a T. I'm 30 years old at this point and only learned this week what adhd is considered.
But part of me feels ashamed, I'm not trying to lie to get treatment but I already feel like this is going to be a deadend
So what do I even do at this point? I made an appointment with my doctor for next week but I just feel like it's almost pointless and I might get turned away.
