Stone removal surgery - no stone

😡 Rant! 😡

Wanted to share my story and get opinions on how I was treated, and was wondering if anything sounded out of the ordinary.

I started passing my stone on March 15th (my wife was scheduled to be induced March 17th, so I decided to just do pain management at home, this was my second stone, so I knew what the pain was)

Stone never passed, and though the pain subsided mostly, was having bad symptoms eventually that made me think the stone was stuck, so I went to urgent care, who had me follow up with a urologist.

It took 5 weeks to get into the urologist as their soonest new patient appointment. Once in, they told me to go get a CT scan but there wasn't one available that day, so I had to schedule one at an off site imaging center for two days later - but wouldn't end up needing that appointment because the day after, I was in extreme pain again, and having trouble urinating, so I went to the ER.

The ER did a CT scan and found the 7mm stone stuck in my ureter, right above my bladder. I was admitted, and the next day I had surgery and a stent was put in, but the stone was not removed because they feared I could have been developing an infection.

On April 29th, they sent me home with a round of antibiotics and some other meds with the stent in, and they called and scheduled the next surgery, the soonest available was May 26th.

On Tuesday the 26th I went in for the surgery, and finally got to meet the urologist - a different urologist did my first surgery (same practice).

We spoke for a few minutes before the surgery, and when I woke up I was told by a nurse that the stone wasn't in there and that I must have passed it without realizing. The stent was removed during the surgery and he decided a second stent did not need to be replaced since the stone was gone. I didn't personally get to talk to the doctor after the procedure, he spoke to my wife on the phone while I was still recovering from anesthesia. They didn't find the stone and it didn't show up on their x-ray

This morning, 2 days after the stone retrieval surgery/aborted lithotripsy, I went to the bathroom and passed the stone that they could not find.

As this was my first time with a stone that I couldn't pass, I was just wondering if this sounded like par for the course with these sort of situations, or if this was abnormal. It was extremely confusing waking up from surgery and being told that the stone that had given me hell for more than 2 months was not up there.
