I built an immersive reader that streams high-fidelity translations and tracks the emotional aura of Light Novels

Hey r/LightNovels!

I’ve been reading raw LNs/WNs for a while now, and one thing that always bothered me was how lifeless a lot of machine translations feel. Even when the translation is technically “correct,” the personality of the characters, the humor, the atmosphere, and those subtle emotional moments just disappear.

So I ended up building something for myself called PRISM — a reader focused specifically on Japanese Light Novels and Web Novels.

A few things it does:

  • Atmosphere-aware reading: Instead of translating lines in isolation, PRISM tries to understand the tone and emotional flow of scenes, then subtly changes the background ambience/colors while you read. It sounds small, but it genuinely makes dramatic or emotional scenes hit harder.
  • Consistent terminology & names: If you read a lot of fantasy raws, you know how annoying it is when names, titles, honorifics, or skill names keep changing every chapter. PRISM keeps track of characters, custom terms, and world-specific vocabulary so translations stay consistent.
  • Personal library support: You can upload raw TXT chapters, organize series, and keep track of your reading progress/streaks.

It’s free to try, and there’s also a premium option for heavier usage if you binge-read a lot.

I’d genuinely love feedback from people here since this was built for LN/WN readers first. If you’re currently reading any raws, send them my way — I’m especially curious how PRISM handles different writing styles and genres.
