The video, recorded by 17-year-old Sumyah Tate, captured the officer ordering the driver to stop while multiple teenagers gathered nearby inside a parking garage.

According to police, officers responded around 2 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of dozens of vehicles and teenagers gathering in parking garages past the city’s juvenile curfew.

Chief Drew described the scene as chaotic, with individuals riding on vehicles, hanging out of windows and sunroofs, dancing on moving cars, and officers detecting the odor of marijuana throughout the area.

Police later released surveillance footage that they say provides additional context to the encounter. Authorities stated the footage showed reckless driving inside the garage and an officer nearly being struck by a vehicle moments before the handgun was drawn.

Chief Drew said the officer perceived a threat during the encounter, leading to the weapon being pointed at the SUV. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
