Winning through Tourist Resorts felt awesome!
I enjoyed my Economic Victory game, but it was easy.
I found my Science Victory experience to be mediocre, and much easier than I expected.
But my Culture Victory game was a blast!
I played Hatshepsut/Egypt throughout the entire game, and built my strategy around Tourist Resorts. It was lots of fun, I had to share my experience!
I started the game with a list of goals:
- Fast really strong second city on a navigable river
- Find Natural Wonders and settle as many as I can
- Look for patches of breathtaking tiles and settle them asap
Ofc I spammed wonders in my 2 cities, and I managed to settle 2 natural wonders in Antiquity, and 1 in Exploration.
I managed to avoid all wars all game despite my very close neighbor Ashoke being mad at me the whole time.
I grabbed 2-3 Unique Improvements each era and built at least one in each settlement.
It was all standard Culture stuff that put me ahead in Tourism, and by the start of Modern Age I was around 130 Tourism points away from victory.
What felt great at that moment was looking at each of my 6 towns that I had built in high appeal locations and making sure that they all had at least 7 worked Breathtaking tiles, and once Globalism Mastery was done I converted them all into Tourist Resorts, and the amount of Tourism they generated in an instant was MASSIVE! I had over 200 Tourism just from my Tourist Resorts at a point when the required amount to win was around 700!
Admittedly, the AI players seemed to all be ignoring Tourism, which made it much easier, but it felt really good regardless. I didn't think winning before the 20% milestone in Modern Age was possible, but it turns out Resort Towns are kinda OP!
PS: Sorry about the long post! The game got me a bit too excited.
