I knew hiring websites were becoming a problem when recruiters stopped reading resumes properly.

Before people jump in with “well recruiters should just work harder” trust me, most are already mentally fried.
I remember one hiring sprint where we posted a single role and crossed 3,000 applications in less than a week.
At first everyone was excited.
More applicants = more talent, right.
Wrong.
After the first few hundred resumes, recruiters weren’t even processing candidates like humans anymore. People started scanning for keywords instead of actually reading experience.
Someone would say:
“Looks good”
without even opening the portfolio.
Another recruiter rejected candidates in under 10 seconds because there simply wasn’t enough time.
And honestly… I hated watching that happen.
Because buried inside those applications were real people:
laid off employees
burned out workers
people desperately trying to switch careers
people spending hours applying after work every night
But hiring websites turned everything into volume.
Candidates mass apply because nobody responds.
Recruiters skim because application numbers become impossible.
Good candidates get buried.
Then everyone blames each other.
Tbh I don’t even think recruiters and candidates are enemies anymore.
I think both sides are exhausted by systems that stopped feeling human a long time ago.
