Divorce a "nice" but financially ruined guy?

Moving on

Dated for a short while before becoming official. He later told me abt his financial struggles after being laid off and divorced. I paid for his bankruptcy to help him get a clean slate as a single mom of 3. Crazy right? Yep!

1.5 yrs later we moved in together. He paid no household bills for 2yrs. I decided to build a house 2yrs later. I continued to pay all household bills until he could financially help.

Why couldn't he help? You paid for his bankruptcy. He should be good now right? Wrong! He opened more cards to "survive" because his full time job didnt pay enough plus he had a court ordered child support case.

During the relationship we took trips that we both paid for. He supported my kids and I his. After being a girlfriend for 8yrs, I wanted to get married. Finances aside, he's a really kind person.

We had a small ceremony in the living room. He quit his ft job for entrepreneurship.

I cosigned a box truck and life was starting to look up for him. I opened a credit card to add my kids to. You know to build their credit. He asked to use it for emergencies and I reluctantly agreed. He starts bringing in a nice amt of money and finally able to get out of the new debt he's accumulated. Then the truck started having issues which impacted him getting loads. He opens up more cards (unbeknownst to me) to fuel the truck and whatever else he needed. The card I let him use for emergencies? Maxed out and he can barely make the minimum payment. I ended up removing the kids from the card early on so no impact to their credit. I even paid for truck repairs myself because "marriage"🤦🏾‍♀️

Fast forward. 14 years together, 6 years into the marriage and several truck repairs later, I'm over it.

Hes a really great guy. Super sweet and would give you the shirt off of his back. I don't know what type of karma hes getting but it's sucking the life out of me.

I've purchased cars for my kids, paid tuition, paid and 95% every household expense including the mortgage for the entire time we've lived together. We both went to college but he's never utilized his degrees. My income has increased significantly during the relationship and marriage which is how I'm able to cover essentially everything.

I suggested he file bankruptcy since he's can't get a head. He looked into it and just yesterday told me that he opened up more debt during the marriage. Which I'm now responsible for. That was my final straw.

I reached out to a divorce lawyer through Legal Shield so get an idea of the process.

Any advice? Other than "you should have just stayed a girlfriend or dumped him years ago"? Because girl I know😩
