Should I accept my University of Birmingham MSc offer as an international student?

UCAS Bread 🍞 (Offers)

I recently got a conditional offer from the University of Birmingham for their MSc in Advanced Computer Science program. As an international student from India, I’m feeling the pinch of the high tuition fees for international students, and the overall cost is definitely a big financial commitment. So, I want to make a well-informed decision before I accept the offer.

I’m really looking for honest feedback from anyone who has studied there, knows someone who has, or works in the UK tech or academic scene. here are a few things I’m curious about:

  1. How is the University of Birmingham perceived in the UK? Is it genuinely regarded as prestigious by employers and the public, or is it more of a “good but average” university?

  2. What’s its reputation like specifically for Computer Science? Does it hold a strong academic and industry presence in tech-related fields?

  3. What are the outcomes like for graduates? I’m not just asking about visa sponsorship or settling in the UK, but more about whether UoB graduates are viewed positively and if the degree itself is valued.

  4. How would you rate the teaching quality, curriculum, and overall student experience? Are the courses challenging and up-to-date, or are they mostly theoretical and outdated?

  5. How proactive is the university in terms of networking, research opportunities, career fairs, industry exposure, internships, and so on?

  6. For current students or alumni: Looking back, do you feel that the degree was worth the tuition and overall investment?

  7. Are there any significant downsides about the university, department, city, administration, or student life that prospective students should be aware of before making a commitment?

If you were in my shoes today as an international student paying full fees, would you accept this offer?

I’d really appreciate some brutally honest opinions rather than promotional responses. I’m just trying to make the most informed decision possible before I confirm the offer.
