GATE and placement query

Should I sit for placements or should I directly start preparing for GATE? From what I have seen here on reddit , seniors with high cgpa remain unplaced and a lot of you here say that it's mostly based on luck + KIIT has not had a very good placement record this season. I will graduate in 2028 thus my best time to start preparing for both Placements / GATE would be now. Need some honest and good advice from a senior.
