East coast vibes- June

Hi all, I am planning a trip in June to Sri Lanka. As per all the recommendations East Coast is the way to go because of the weather, I was researching online about this and mostly everyone heads to South mostly. I am a bit scared that if for my first experience in Sri Lanka east coast is a bad choice? Is that part of the country dead and there’s not much to do?
