His parents dont want him to get married at all

Salam alaykum everyone, I am writing this with a heavy heart, sorry for long post but I need advice.

My husband and I have known each other for several years and after some years we wanted to get married.

He moved alone to Canada (im in Europe), he is 27y, he has a job and still studying, he has been paying alone his school/visa fees/rent ecc for a few years now.

3 years ago he told his family about getting married, but they kept saying always later...

So, last year he went back to his country for Eid and told his family again about me and doing at least just Nikkah and showed them he is studying very hard, he has enough money, he has been preparing everything for me but their answer was just no and that he should wait that he has finished his studies and has a better job and a car and house, ecc... His father also said that if he does nikkah without their permission he will stop talking to him (his father is very strict and when he says that he really means it).

But 6 months ago we decided to still do at least nikkah, which we did, to make it halal, like he is 27y and he does everything alone and still they tell him no for no valid reasons!! However, he didnt tell them because he didnt want them to get angry and cause more drama.

I didnt went to live with him bc I had to stay with my mom to solve some issues, but now everything has been settled alhamdulillah and he asked me to go live with him but I said no because his parents dont even know we did nikkah and I want to do civil marriage and have a party and have our families to know each other ecc but he said his family wont change idea whether we live toghether or not.

I dont know what to do cause I think they are acting so unfairly to him and it makes both our situation so difficult and we have been waiting for so long!!

P.S. his brother also wants to get married, he asked and they said no and when they went to visit him he brought the girl to present them and his father ignored the girl and stopped talking to him.
