Matt deserved the best nurse award (s2)

I just watched the episode in s2 where it was nurses appreciation week. Every year they give out an award to the nurse who "best exemplifies their commitment to patient care." Why was everyone acting like matt didn't deserve the award??? Is he the most skilled nurse? No! But he is absolutely the most caring and committed nurse by far! We see this throughout the series especially in s2 e5 when Matt was trying to figure out why that guy was suffering from fainting spells. During that whole episode he was trying to figure out what triggered them even when Serena said it was pointless. I don't understand why all the characters acted like he doesn't deserve it when he is clearly the kindest person in the whole hospital! Yeah, he's clueless at times but that doesn't stop him from doing the best he can. Anyone else catch this too??
