Kitchen renovation has been a saga and now we are using a dream family vacation as the finish line motivation

We started what was supposed to be a six-week kitchen renovation in February. It is now four months later and we are still not done. Supply chain issues delayed the custom cabinetry by nine weeks, one of the tile shipments arrived cracked, and our contractor had a family emergency that paused work for two weeks. The kitchen is in a state that requires us to cook in the garage on a camping stove, which my kids have actually found hilarious but is wearing thin for the adults.

To stay sane we promised ourselves a proper beach vacation once it wraps up, somewhere in the Caribbean with warm water, no power tools, and absolutely no decision-making about grout color. The kids are ecstatic about it. The catch is that when I pulled out our passports to start looking at timing, I found that our youngest son's passport has a photo that no longer looks like him, he was four in the photo and is now nine, and while technically the passport is not expired, when I looked it up the guidance on whether a child's significantly changed appearance requires early renewal before international travel is genuinely ambiguous. When I went to the official passport website to clarify, the language was so unclear that I ended up more confused than when I started, and I do not want to risk showing up at the airport with a document that gets questioned.

Homeowners who have survived long renovations and rewarded the family with a trip afterward, what helped you cross the finish line without losing your mind? And by the way, has anyone dealt with navigating confusing passport guidance for kids and found a service that could actually give a clear answer?
