Horrible writing, horrible gameplay, horrible time.

I dont care about the characters. I played for six hours and I couldn't relate to anyone on any level, nor did I get any interest to learn more about them. Every character seems like a reskinned Sunny with their personality slightly changed in order to advance the plot. I can't believe anyone cares about the characters when all of them are a MacGuffin. What plot plot are all these characters advancing, you may ask? Well, you get to figure out why your playable character is so fricking messed up!!!

Sunny is The Joker for theater kids who couldnt grow up, I swear. Everyone has trauma and I was given no reason to care about my character, the people around me, or the world. I think the reason that Sunny doesn't talk (unless you get a certain ending) and the reason you dont find out his trauma is so that players can project themselves onto this empty slate of a character because he is literally me, bro, he is so sadge and he loves cats!!!

Also, dont even get me started on the gameplay. Omorons will tell you the gameplay is irrelevant because it is a narrative focused game, but then why not make it a book or a show? Obviously I care about gameplay, and yes how important gameplay is changed based on the genre of the game, but oh my lord they wanted to be like the beloved emotional indies before it (Undertale specifically) and mixed it with horrible Pokémon style combat, but with emotions!!! What if instead of fire and water we had happy and sad? Bravo, dev team. Truly innovative. They should have been shameless about it and just fully ripped Pokémons combat and replaced elements with emotions because right now it's some weird middle ground where the combat scenes look like a kid drew what they thought indie game combat would look like on paper.

The plot is paced horribly, the character development is next to nothing, and Omorons will excuse this with the stereotypical gamer argument of "noooo you just have to beat it then you will like it trust me" but twist/revelation endings suck if the road there is somehow both exhausting and boring. Omor

I hate OMORI
