Streets of Laredo

Like most of you, I'm still chasing the high of Lonesome Dove - which I finished two weeks ago. I went right into Streets of Laredo and am about to finish it. Overall I think I liked it more than many of you did. Besides the obvious hole of not having Gus as a main character, the main weakness to me was Pea Eye. They elevated him to a main character and he is just so dull that it doesn't really work well.

But overall I thought the decline of Call, and the characters of Maria and Joey Garza were good storytelling. Also the concept of Crow Town and the use of real life characters such as John Wesley Hardin and Charles Goodnight was interesting.

I also just finished the Lonesome Dove miniseries (the score is way too swooning and sentimental for the tone of the book) and started the Streets of Laredo miniseries (James Garner?!?!).

I think I will take a break and try a palate cleanse with a sci-fi or non-fiction book before I go back and try the prequel books.
