Misdemeanor 9 days before 21st Bday

Advice needed

Salt Lake City, Utah
My kids, husband, and I got to Kilby Music Festival every year as a family. It’s a fun way to welcome summer and spend time together watching all the bands we love. My kids are 22 y/o son, 20 y/o daughter, and a 15 y/o daughter. My older two kids were also joined by their significant others and a couple friends.
On the second day, my daughter’s boyfriend (who is 21) had a beer, he gave it to my daughter, and they proceeded to walk around while she took a couple sips from it. Out of nowhere, they were surrounded by 5 or 6 undercover cops who took the beer and detained my daughter and her boyfriend away from my son and the rest of their friends. This was on May 16. My daughter’s 21st birthday was 9 days away on May 25.
The cops had my daughter do a breathalyzer where she blew 0.0. The cops gave my daughter a misdemeanor for “underage drinking, purchasing, or possessing alcohol” which I think is annoying since she was so close to her birthday with no priors, but I’m also like, ya gotta pay the price I guess.
They gave her boyfriend a much heftier “supplying alcohol to an underage person” charge that has the potential for a much bigger fine and charge on his record. Both my daughter and her boyfriend live on their own in apartments with roommates, they go to school and work jobs and pay bills.. they actually are good kids. They show up to all our dumb family stuff and they’re involved with their siblings.. my daughter’s boyfriend is in the process of applying to a competitive program at school and this will prevent him from doing so as long as this charge is on his record.
The cop handling my daughter (Officer R. Wright) made comments to her about how she’s lucky they were caught on the Kilby grounds because if they had been outside the venu, he would’ve “arrested her little boyfriend”. After giving them their tickets the cops cut their 3-day Kilby wristbands off and escorted them to an exit; all the while telling my son and the rest of their friends to “not follow them”. My kids and all their friends said most of the cops were respectful enough and explaining things but they said “Detective” Wright was laughing and making comments about how my daughter probably does this all the time —> she’s at work and school or my house all the time and she still shares her location with me and her siblings by choice so I can attest to the fact that she’s actually NOT out underage drinking all the time.
Anyways!!! Does anyone have any experience with this? I’m more concerned with her boyfriend’s charge and it affecting his school. He’s probably going to get a lawyer but this has us all kinda stressed for him so I was hoping that if y’all could share experiences that it could at least prepare us for what he’s facing.
