Rain testing my balcony solar cable entry before trusting it for summer storms

This is a small DIY detail, but it is the thing i wish i had tested earlier. Panel mounting gets all the attention. Cable entry is where my first balcony solar attempt got ugly.

I have an existing small balcony PV setup and recently added a Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro Max AC as AC coupled storage on a rented flat in Graz. No panels plug directly into this unit, which is exactly why i picked the AC version. I am keeping the output conservative on the existing circuit for now and will get an electrician involved before treating the high output side as a real household feed. The boring part i changed this month was the cable route near the balcony socket. My first version had the short outdoor rated Schuko lead running straight along the wall with adhesive clips. It looked clean. After one windy rainstorm, water followed the cable path and pooled on the little shelf area right below the plug.

So i rebuilt it and did an intentionally boring rain test with a garden sprayer.

Version two has three changes. First, the cable drops below the plug before rising back up, so there is a real drip loop. Second, the plug area is tucked under the rail lip, not flat against the wall where rain can run straight onto it. Third, i stopped using adhesive clips as structural support and switched to stainless P clips on a removable rail clamp. No drilling into the building, but the cable is actually held by metal instead of hope.

The test was simple. I sprayed from above for five minutes, then from the side for five minutes, then left it for an hour and checked the plug area with tissue. Not scientific, but enough to catch the obvious failure from my first version. The wall still got wet, the cable still got wet, but water dropped off the loop instead of tracking toward the plug.

A few practical notes. Do not make the drip loop so low that it becomes a hook for chairs, knees, or plant pots. Do not trap an outdoor plug in a fully sealed plastic box unless you have thought about condensation. And mark both ends before tying everything up, because tracing a black cable behind balcony furniture is a stupid way to spend a Sunday.

This did not change my solar output by a single watt, but it made the setup feel less temporary. If you are building balcony solar in a rental, i would spend as much time on water path and cable strain relief as on the angle calculator. The angle calculator will not save you when the AC plug is sitting in a puddle.

Has anyone here found a better way to keep balcony cable entry dry without drilling? I am still not happy with the rail clamp solution long term, it works but it is not exactly elegant.
