What’s your favorite NPC side quest?
I just finished Rolan’s quest in Act 3 (the Lorroakan fight) on my second playthrough and realized how much I missed the first time around.
My first run, I didn’t bring the Nightsong, so it felt like a straightforward fight: kill the greedy wizard, loot his stuff, and watch Rolan and his siblings finally find a home. Good enough on its own.
But bringing the Nightsong on my second run? The whole quest hits completely differently. You get to see Rolan genuinely stand up to this wizard who’s been controlling and abusing him, and then there’s that line, “I have seen what true leadership can accomplish,” where he looks directly at your party when he says it. Knowing how far he’s come since we first met him, it just hits so much harder the second time around.
And then when the Nightsong takes her revenge, there’s this weight to it. That emptiness and sorrow afterward felt so real. I happened to have Astarion and Karlach in my party (before the Cazador and Gortash quests), and talking to them in that moment, you can actually feel them both questioning whether revenge would even bring them peace.
It’s just a reminder of how much effort went into these NPC stories. They feel like real characters with real arcs, not just quest markers.
What’s everyone else’s favorite side quest?
