American hits that never crossed the Atlantic

I am very interested in songs that are popular in Europe, but never reached American ears.

However, that goes both ways. For example, "Zoot Suit Riot" by Cherry Poppin' Daddies only was big in the USA and Canada. It was a small hit in Australia, but it never charted anywhere here in Europe. WIthout Todd, I might never have heard of it.

So I wonder: are there any serious hits that were big in the USA, and of which you can't imagine a life without that song, but for some reason (like bad marketing) never became big in Europe?
