Will they miss me if I disappeared suddenly?
There are nights when silence becomes too loud, and I find myself lying awake, staring at the ceiling at 3am, wondering if anyone would truly notice if I disappeared. Not because I want attention, but because sometimes I feel invisible even when I’m surrounded by people. It’s a strange kind of loneliness. The kind that makes you question your place in other people’s lives.
I often ask myself, Will they miss me if I disappeared suddenly? Would my absence leave an empty space, or would life simply continue as if nothing changed?
Sometimes I think about how easy it is for people to move on. Messages stop. Conversations fade. Days pass without anyone checking if you’re okay. And when that happens repeatedly, it becomes difficult not to wonder whether your presence matters at all. I smile, I respond, I show up, but deep inside there are moments when I feel emotionally distant from everyone around me.
What hurts the most is that I care deeply about people. I remember little things about them. Their favorite colors, the stories they tell, the way their voice changes when they’re sad. Yet there are times when I wonder if anyone remembers me with the same softness. I question if the love I give is ever returned in the same quiet, meaningful way.
But maybe people do care more than they know how to express. Maybe some people assume I’m strong because I rarely talk about what I’m carrying inside. Maybe they think silence means I’m okay. The truth is, some of us become so good at hiding our sadness that no one realizes we’re struggling at all.
Still, despite these thoughts, a part of me wants to believe that my existence matters. That somewhere, my laugh lives in someone’s favorite memory. That my words once comforted someone on a difficult day. That my presence, no matter how small it feels to me, has left something meaningful behind.
Perhaps the real sadness is not disappearing, but feeling unseen while still being here.
And maybe what I truly want is not to vanish and be missed, but to feel loved loudly enough that I never have to question whether I would be.
