how do you fix the Apple TV plus app stretching shows to fill the screen on google TV OS?

ive been watching that tv show your friends and neighbours on the Apple TV app on my android tv television at the native aspect ration but it's suddenly stretching every show i watch to fill the screen, making everything look warped. ive tried changing my tv's display aspect ratio and reinstalled the app but it still does it.
