cat stepped on my laptop while i was away and now my screen has a weird white taint

i dont have a screenshot or photo on hand right now but it basically looks as if there's a purely white image overlaid over my screen at around 20% opacity. just opening the screen brightness settings is enough to fix it but it comes back whenever i re-open my laptop. it's not too bothering as it's easy to fix but it makes darker videos look absolutely ugly and i wish i didnt have to fix it every time
