Hey everyone,

We are EtchWeave Interactive, a small indie app developer team passionate about building native, privacy-focused Windows tools.

We have all dealt with the headache of searching through a drawer full of external USB drives just to find one specific file. Plugging in drives one by one and still not finding what you need. We decided to fix that for ourselves, and we are excited to share our new app called USB Digital Attic.

It's an offline-first premium Windows app that indexes your external USB drives so you can search your entire physical collection instantly. And the best part? It does so even when the external USB drives are currently unplugged!

Some might ask: Why not just use the Everything app by voidtools, a custom PowerShell script, or just plain old Windows Search? While tools like Everything are great for live files, they require manual setup for offline external USB drive indexing.

USB Digital Attic is designed specifically for managing your external USB storage, not internal storage. It bridges the gap between physical USB storage and the convenience of the modern digital world. This is one of its many standout features.

The average person likely does not want to use scary looking tools with a learning curve or custom scripts just to do something simple. Our app indexes external USB drives by default as part of the core experience without any extra thought or setup. It just works.

USB Digital Attic keeps a local, searchable index of your USB drives even when they are sitting in a drawer. This lets you view and search your external USB storage better than a general-purpose search tool.

**What we focused on for USB Digital Attic:**

* **Designed for everyone**: We wanted the app to be simple and easy to use, regardless of technical experience.
* **Privacy-First:** Everything stays locally on your computer. There is no telemetry, no accounts, and no cloud.
* **Advanced Indexing:** It indexes media metadata and includes OCR capabilities to search for text inside your images and documents on your external USB drives. This is much more powerful than a basic search.
* **Drive Health:** We included a feature to monitor external USB drive degradation before any potential data is lost over time. USB drives are not designed to last forever. Our app lets you keep tabs on their health at a glance. Safety first!
* **Modern Native Design:** We built this using the Windows App SDK to ensure it feels right at home on your Windows PC. It also has support for system theme matching and the Windows 11 Mica glass-like visual background effect.

There's a free 7-day trial available that lets you try the full app for free. Take some time to index all your external USB drives, organize them how you want, and see how useful the app can be for your daily life. It costs absolutely nothing to try.

We'd love to hear what you think. Does this look like a tool that would help clean up your own external USB storage chaos?

We are happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for checking out USB Digital Attic!
