I bought a perfect Aventador SV. Gintani had it for 9 months. An independent shop is charging $50-70K to fix their work.

Discussion

Figured I'd share my experience so nobody else goes through this.

I bought a 2016 Aventador SV in perfect driving condition. Had a full PPI done — everything green. The dealer sent it to Gintani in CA for a new clutch since it was starting to slip. Alex looked at the car himself and said it was great, just recommended adding new fuel pumps and pulleys to get it up to speed. I said sure. Quoted 2-3 weeks.

That was September 2025.

The car sat at their California shop for 5 months. During that time I was ghosted for days at a time, given a new completion date every week that never happened, and at one point I literally flew to California to pick it up — got there and it still wasn't ready.

First delivery attempt — car wouldn't even start. Sent it back.

Second delivery months later — two days after getting it I'm bringing it to their Florida shop with ESC faults and gearbox issues. They got it running for about a week. Then I'm stranded on the side of the road with total power loss.

Car sat in their FL shop for another month. All they told me was throttle body issue. Couldn't fix it. Said they didn't have the right tool. Then the owner refused to speak to me entirely.

I pulled it and brought it to an independent shop. Here's what they found:

  • Leaking meth tank (empty)
  • Leaking turbo system lines
  • Rear main seal oil leak
  • Leaking timing cover gasket
  • Starter had to be fully rebuilt
  • E85 system wasn't set up properly — didn't have the fuel system to support it, used meth injection as a band-aid
  • The independent shop described it as a "not so clean install" and said they're "starting over" with the ancillary parts of the turbo system

Their estimate: $50,000-$70,000 to make the car right. 8-12 weeks.

9 months of ownership. Maybe a week of actual driving. And when I posted about my experience on social media, their team pressured me to take it down.

I'm also aware that DDE went through something similar with their McLaren 720 GTR — which was also built/tuned by Gintani. Seems like I'm not the only one. If anyone else has had a similar experience with this shop, I'd be interested to hear about it.
