TD Insurance Accident Forgiveness
I got into a car accident recently, and my car was deemed a total loss. The claim amount has been determined, car removed from the towing company lot, and being processed.
In talking to one of the service representatives, I had asked if I will be reimbursed the insurance premiums I'm paying from the date of the accident. They said yes, and to do that I would have to cancel my insurance, then I will be credited the amount I've paid in premium since the date of my accident. I asked if my Accident Forgiveness policy would prevent my premiums from going up later on when I get a new policy. The answer I got was that the Accident Forgiveness coverage will remain as long as my new policy is under the same account (i.e. the individual).
Fast forward a few weeks, I had cancelled my insurance, and leased a new car. I applied for a new auto insurance. But this time the representative told me that Accident Forgiveness only applies if I keep the same policy and change my vehicle. I tried to argue against it and explained that I was misled by the previous representative, but they are not budging. Luckily at the time of me applying for the new policy, my claim has not closed, so I've been told that I will keep my quoted price for 1 year, but at renewal, I should expect my premiums to jump (google says expect 30-50% increase, which is crazy).
At one point they said that they normally make exceptions if the gap between the policies were less than 30 days. And then I tried to explain that it has only been 10 days since I cancelled my policy (the date of the accident just happened to be 2 months ago due to issues I had to deal with the towing company, which is whole other problem...).
They are now reviewing the calls I had with the representatives. Has anyone had a similar experience and any success in the complaints process?
